Welcome, my name is Nick Ryan and I have been blowing glass since 2007. My interest in glass sprung from my experimentation with a wine bottle and torch. From that simple, crude experiment I was able to see the spectacular properties glass has to offer. I then found out that there was a glassblowing studio near by; that small piece of knowledge brought me into the world of glassblowing. Since the first day of making paperweights, I was hooked. After paperweights, I acquired more skills that allowed me to create different forms, such as vases, bowls, and plates.

The properties I saw in the wine bottle became even more apparent as I continued to advance in glassblowing. Those newfound properties plus a 2000-degree furnace heating my face during the process grabbed my attention. Glass has qualities unlike any other media. Those qualities enable me to create any form that I can think of.

Glass pieces, in all their wonder, are not only beautiful, but also functional. When made the right way, glass can be created in a very sturdy fashion. That translates to bowls, plates, vases, etc. that can be used in one’s home daily. The optical properties of glass are also stunning. Each beam of light brings out a different characteristic in the glass that enhances the unique piece of artwork.

The best way to understand glassblowing is to experience it. If you are interested in trying a class contact the Anderson Center, in Red Wing Minnesota.

I would be happy to sell you a piece of my work. Along with the pieces pictured, I have many not seen in the gallery. If you are interested in purchasing a piece, or you have a commission in mind please feel free to Contact Me.
